12/25/09 08:04 pm - [info]mythosidhe - Mmmm...Delicious AND Adorable...

So I'm torn over which to eat first: Marshmallow Hello Kitty; or Chocolatly Penguin....

On a related note, is it weird that although my brother is 25 and I myself am nearly 30, my mother still insists on us having Christmas stockings every year? Although to be fair, this year she got me an awesome purple one from Old Navy that glows in the dark...

More swag pix to come! Just now I'm off to visit a sick friend--

12/25/09 08:54 am - [info]mythosidhe - Season's Greetings

(By way of Baronness Crussol, and with apologies to Mme Vigée-Lebrun ^_~)

I know this time of year can be trying, but somehow by the time Solstice and Christmas arrive I always manage to get into the spirit of things, despite whatever else is going on. I hope everyone who is celebrating has a beautiful day ^_^

P.S. ~ For the needleworkers out there, I found this painting (sans festive graffiti) posted as a free cross-stitch pattern here! Several other Vigée-Lebrun patterns on that site as well.

12/24/09 02:50 pm - [info]mythosidhe - Checking in--

Hey people. Firstly, let me say that I hope everyone has been enjoying the holidays thus far. For my part, I am trying as hard as possible to catch up on all of the tasks I was supposed to (but didn't) accomplish this week. The last time I posted (Saturday morning) it had only been snowing for a few hours, and it looked like this outside. By the end of the evening, when I tried to go to work, it looked like this:

Same shot, much more snow. My garden's under there somewhere. Now, as I said, I tried to go to work, but the attempt was unsuccessful. I made it to the subway alright, but by the time I got to the terminal at the other end, there were no buses running. I waited around until midnight on the off chance that one might show up, then called my job to tell them I couldn't get there, and took the last train back in the other direction.

As a capper to my utterly failed evening, once I made it back to the house and dropped my backpack and whatnot, I went back out into the hall to turn off the overhead light, slipped on the landing, and banged my head--HARD--on the front door of the opposite apartment. It sounded quite loud to me, but no one came out to see what had happened o_O I wasn't in much pain, but I called my friend who works nights at a bar in the neighborhood, so that just in case I turned out to be more injured than I thought I was someone would know. He insisted that I a)put ice on it, and b)not go to sleep, on the off chance that I had a concussion. He came over and sat up with me for several hours after his shift was over, so I didn't end up going to bed until nearly 6am.

The rest of my week has been pretty consistently crappy. All the snow has made commuting erratic and slow, and since I've had overnight shifts every day I haven't been able to get any of my errands done. I haven't been to the post office yet, and it doesn't look like any of the last minute shopping I wanted to do is going to get done :( I will try to get all of my cards and packages out on Saturday, so hopefully they will reach their destinations by New Year's.

Ah well, I suppose I have taken a long enough break from cleaning up the mild disaster area that is my apartment, so I should get back to it. Once that's done I can settle down to wrapping gifts for my family and watching It's A Wonderful Life and Meet Me In St. Louis. I have a few other updates, but they can wait for later (hopefully between now and then the connector cable for my camera will turn up...).

12/19/09 01:29 pm - [info]mythosidhe - No trip to the post office today...

There's been several more inches accumulation since I took this photo a couple of hours ago. Me walking through this carrying a stack of boxes is nothing but a recipe for disaster. So instead I've made a pot of tea, and I'm going to stay in, tidy the apartment, and conserve my energy for the trip to work tonight.

Bonus side effect of snowstorms--watching my cat trying to attack snowflakes through the window :p

See this? I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. Also, that new Alicia Keys album? Freaking amazing & highly recommended by me.

12/16/09 08:51 pm - [info]mythosidhe - Winter Music Shuffle

Hey peoples. So, freezing out, I have to leave for work in little over an hour, yay! Meanwhile, I've been been throwing together a mix of albums to compliment my sparkly pink Christmas tree. I have some more traditional classical/mediaeval stuff that will go in once I can remember where I've stored it on the harddrive (my filing system is kind of erratic...). Here's what's playing so far:

Tori Amos - Midwinter Graces
Joan Baez - Noël
Jane Siberry - Shushan
Loreena McKennitt - To Drive The Cold Winter Away
Petracovich - Old Long Since-Winter Songs
Projekt Records - Excelsis Vols. 1-3
Enya - And Winter Came
Sarah Brightman - A Winter Symphony

Any recommendations for additional albums I should maybe consider downloading?
